--smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 618\/565;\" \/><\/em><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Figure 3 show farrowing process diagram.<\/em><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<h3>Gestation Length<\/h3>\n<div>&#8211;\u00a0Average gestation length in sow is 115 days (115+\/-4 days).<br \/>\n&#8211;\u00a0Gilts and large litter size sows are tend to have a shorten gestation length.<br \/>\n&#8211;\u00a0Small litter size sows are tend to have a longer gestation length.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<h3>3 Stages of the farrowing process in sows<\/h3>\n<h4>Pre-farrowing period<\/h4>\n<div>&#8211;\u00a010-14 days prior to the due date.<br \/>\n&#8211;\u00a0Development of mammary glands and swelling vulva.<br \/>\n&#8211;\u00a0Teat enlargement occurs, can see clearly the veins supplying the udder.<br \/>\n&#8211;\u00a0Reduce appetite.<br \/>\n&#8211;\u00a0Standing up and lying down.<br \/>\n&#8211;\u00a0Chewing and moving the bedding around.<br \/>\n&#8211;\u00a0Show making bed behavior.<br \/>\n&#8211;\u00a0Piglets will delivery within 12 hours, milk is secreted into mammary gland (use gentle hand &amp; finger massage).<br \/>\n&#8211;\u00a0Slight mucous discharge on the vulva lips.<br \/>\n&#8211;\u00a0See small round pellet of feces, called meconium.<br \/>\n&#8211;\u00a0Piglets are getting ready to be pushed out of the uterus.<\/div>\n<h4>The farrowing process<\/h4>\n<div>&#8211;\u00a0This process may take 3-4 hours.<br \/>\n&#8211;\u00a0Piglets are usually delivered in every 15 minutes.<br \/>\n&#8211;\u00a0Farrowing assistant must pay more attention to the sows that have problem at last farrowing process and old parity sows.<br \/>\n&#8211;\u00a0Administer oxytocin to farrowing sows those deliver 6th-7th piglets at 20-30 IU\/sow.<br \/>\n&#8211;\u00a0NSAID injection such as Paracetamol, Dichlofenac, Tolfedine or Flunixin 2 days consecutively is recommended.<br \/>\n&#8211;\u00a0Inject fast action antibiotic such as Ceftiofur sodium.<br \/>\n&#8211;\u00a0If sow trying to push out the piglets but no piglets come out, farrowing assistants have to make decision to do farrowing assist.<\/div>\n<h4>Delivery of the placenta<\/h4>\n<div>&#8211;\u00a0\u00be of farrowing process.<br \/>\n&#8211;\u00a0Sows will call piglets to sucking her milk.<br \/>\n&#8211;\u00a0After the placenta has been delivered, there will a slight\/sometime heavy discharge for the 2-3days.<br \/>\n&#8211;\u00a0Wash and clean vulva area, udder and floor with mild disinfectants after farrowing process done is the most recommended.<br \/>\n&#8211;\u00a0Normal farrowed sows with normal udder, they will eat well and no fever.<br \/>\n&#8211;\u00a0Farrowed sows those show MMA symptoms, they will have longer and heavy discharge, eat less, got fever.
